Federation of Sierra Leonean Communities of Canada
The Federation of Sierra Leonean Communities of Canada is a non-profit diaspora umbrella organization that represent the Sierra Leonean diaspora communities and strive to improve the well-being of Sierra Leonean Canadians, people of Sierra Leonean descent and other individuals and groups in the broader community through leadership, collaboration, advocacy, capacity building, and other diaspora initiatives.
Objectives
- To represent the Sierra Leonean Canadian communities nationally and internationally.
- To connect with diaspora communities and individuals and facilitates communication, collaboration, and coordination among different diaspora associations, organizations and individuals.
- To support community members and facilitate the integration of immigrants and refugees into Canadian society as well as foster diversity, inclusion and social cohesion.
- To seek, develop and maintain partnership and collaboration with other diaspora groups and organization in Canada.
- To build and maintain a sense of community, identity, and tradition through observing important holidays such as independent day, organizing events such as festival and teaching history and more.
- To promote and maintain connections with home country, Sierra Leone and contribute to the socio-economic development of Sierra Leone through entrepreneurship, capacity development, innovation, family support, humanitarian assistance, crisis intervention and more.
Activities
- Represents the Sierra Leonean communities and diaspora associations and organizations at national and international levels through meetings, conferences, workshops, events and other functions.
- Provides social and community support such as information, referrals, advocacy, support services and more.
- Organizes outreach activities and supports the activities of diaspora association and organizations including mentoring, capacity building, fundraising, volunteerism, program development and implementation, dispute resolution and more
- Hosts and participates in networking activities to cultivate and maintain collaboration and partnership through meetings, workshops, events, conferences, and more.
- Organizes events and functions such as independent day, cultural festival and performing arts, picnic, fundraising activities and other special events.
- Contributes to socio-economic development of Sierra Leone through entrepreneurship, capacity development, humanitarian assistance, and support for families and friends.
